Board Declares 2012 Lyme Disease Awareness Year

In recognition of the serious effects of Lyme disease, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has declared 2012 as Lyme Disease Awareness Year.

The Board adopted a resolution and proclamation in which the Board “commits to mitigating the devastating effects of Lyme disease on the citizens of Loudoun.” The Board also voted to send a ten-point action plan, which will include a community education and outreach effort, to the Finance, Government Services and Operations Committee for review.

As detailed in the action plan, a link to the county’s Lyme disease Web page –www.loudoun.gov/lyme - has already been placed prominently on the county’s home page. The county will also begin soliciting bids to apply insecticides at some county-owned parks.

More information about Lyme disease, including links to information from the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, is online at www.loudoun.gov/lyme.
