Mission
Our mission is to serve less fortunate families, children and senior citizens by providing much needed items, in a manner that promotes dignity and self respect. We believe that a single act of kindness can be the turning point towards a brighter future for those in need.
History
In 1996, a number of government and nonprofit agencies met to design a better way to serve families in need during the holidays. The goal was to prevent duplication of services and assure fairness and equitability to all. Now, there is one application process for those in need and all food and gifts are distributed from a centralized location.
Eligible families "shop" in a store that has been stocked with donated food and new merchandise, allowing families a sense of choice and dignity. The stores are held annually at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hundreds of volunteers and donors come together to set up the store and help with distribution. It is truly a community effort to bring the magic of the holidays to every one.
Statistics
Since its inception the Holiday Programs have assisted hundreds of families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. In 2008, the Coalition helped more than 2,000 families. They received holiday food baskets, personal care baskets, new clothing, toys, filled stockings and more.
