Animal Shelter

The Loudoun County Animal Shelter is located on a 13-acre parcel of land, five miles west of Leesburg, Virginia.

The shelter was originally constructed by the Humane Society of the United States in 1967 and was purchased by the county in 1974. The facility as remodeled, modernized and expanded in 2000.

The 13,000 square foot facility includes:

  • 45 kennel runs for dogs
  • Housing for up to 90 cats
  • Housing for birds, reptiles and small animals
  • State-of-the-art heating and air conditioning system
  • Central pressure washing system
  • Durable epoxy and urethane finish in animal housing areas
  • Dog and cat visitation rooms
  • Dog and cat clinic
  • Animal control and dispatch offices
  • Classroom and training space
  • Administrative office space
  • Two fenced pastures for livestock
  • Outdoor dog walk and play area
