Once you have completed Parts 1 through 4 bring the application to the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office located at 18 East Market Street, Leesburg Virginia 20176. The Circuit Court Clerk’s Office can complete Part 5 of the application.
You must then forward the application to the Secretary of the Commonwealth for issuance of the official notary commission. A check or money order for the application fee payable to the “Treasurer of Virginia” must accompany the application.
In approximately four to six weeks, a letter will be sent to you from the Secretary of the Commonwealth stating that your commission has been processed. Upon receipt of this letter, please wait five business days and then call the Clerk's Office at 703-777-0270 to confirm that we have received the commission.
After receiving this confirmation, come to the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office Public Services counter on the 2nd floor to qualify. You will be required to present you’re valid photo identification (such as driver’s license, passport, or military identification) and a ten dollar ($10.00) payment. You may pay by cash or check (no starter checks will be accepted) made payable to "Clerk of Circuit Court." Your name on your identification presented to the Clerk must match the name on your commission.
If you do not come to the Clerk’s Office within 60 days, state law requires that your commission be returned to the Secretary of the Commonwealth to be voided.
There is no renewal process. In order to avoid an interruption in providing notarial services, you must file a new application prior to the expiration of your commission. Please remember it takes at least four to six weeks to process a Notary Application.
