Environmental Policy & Program Assessment Report

In anticipation of the Board of Supervisors' future strategic planning sessions, an assessment of the county's environmental and heritage resources has been prepared.

The report, "Loudoun County Environmental Policy and Program Assessment," is intended to serve as an assessment tool for county decision-makers in future priority setting for plans, programs, and strategies for protecting and enhancing the county's environmental and heritage resources. The report discusses the current state of these resources in Loudoun County.

The report is organized according to the following:

  • Group One: Natural Resource Assets
  • Group Two, Heritage Resource Assets
  • Group Three, Open Space Assets
  • Group Four, Complementary Elements

For each of these groups, a brief description of the Comprehensive Plan’s environmental policies is provided, i.e., What is the vision for the county’s environmental resources?; followed by a discussion on the progress in implementing the policies, i.e., Where are we now?, and concluding with proposed potential next steps, i.e., Where are we going?  The next steps are not in any particular order and are not intended to imply any prioritization.

Since June 10, 2008, the report has been revised to correct minor grammatical errors and provide clarifications regarding geotechnical and geophysical requirements. Additional information regarding the protection of prime agricultural soils has also been added. The revised report is available online. It requires the Adobe Reader, which be downloaded for free here.
