Office of the Sheriff
Criminal Investigations Division
Loudoun County Gang Unit

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit consists of seven full-time criminal investigators and one supervisor whose functions include: gang related investigations, suppression, intelligence gathering, training and inter-agency support.

The Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit works a varied schedule depending on operational and mission requirements. The unit focuses on known and potential criminal street gangs, felony gang crimes committed by gang members and conducting extensive investigations into cases that ultimately remove the most violent gang offenders from our streets.

The unit was formed in 2003 with the collective mission to reduce gang-related crimes and active gang membership in Loudoun County. The mission is accomplished through the use of covert surveillance, special operations, investigation and arrests of gang members. The Loudoun Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney assists this mission through vigorous prosecution of gang members involved in criminal activity.

In 2003, funding from the United States Congress, through Congressman Frank Wolf, enabled the creation of the Northern Virginia Gang Task Force. This unit bridges the efforts of the Loudoun County Gang Unit with partners from the metro region including representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (US-ICE). The result is a coordinated law enforcement and public information effort to combat gang activity.

The Loudoun County Gang Unit actively confronts gang-activity with public awareness programs held throughout the county. If your community or organization is interested in holding a gang awareness seminar, which lasts approximately one hour, please contact Sgt. Dave Zuleger at 703-737-8375.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office now offers diversion programs to the Loudoun County Public Schools through the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program. This program is taught by the agency’s School Resource Officers (SRO’s) in some Loudoun County middle schools.

To confidentially report gang activity to law enforcement staff of the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force, please call 1-866-NO-GANGS or call the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021. In an emergency, please call 911.
