Do You Need to Change Your Voter Information?

If you have moved and/or changed your name, you must notify your local voter registration office of changes.

If You Need to Change Your Information

You can change your name and address in a number of ways, however your change must be made by mail, in person or by fax. Changing your information always requires your signature. Please note that if you live in another locality and submit a change for that locality, your application will be forwarded to your residence locality, the only locality authorized to make your change.

Ways to Change Your Registration Information

If you live in Loudoun County you can submit your change by fax at 703-777-0622. Click on the link below to print an application. (It requires the Adobe Reader, which may be downloaded here for free.)

You can submit your notice of change of name and/or address in person at one of the offices listed below.

If you are transferring from another locality to Loudoun County, the quickest way to change your information is to submit an original document by filling out a Virginia Voter Registration Application. link to .pdf  Mailing your completed original application to the Loudoun County Voter Registration office on Sycolin Road will start the change. Please call us at the phone number above if you would like to have an application mailed to you.

If you have your previous Voter Card, a small form is printed on the other side of your card. This form is used to process your new address and/or name. The completed signed card should be mailed to Loudoun County Voter Registration at the Sycolin Road office listed above.

You may also call the office above to get a Virginia Voter Registration Application at 703-777-0380. This may be completed and returned by mail to the Voter Registration office at the Sycolin Road address above.

If you wish to submit a letter, the following information is required to change your registration:

  • Full legal name (if this is a change of name, include old and new name). Please see the note below.
  • New residence address, including apartment, unit or suite numbers
  • Birth date or last four digits of your Social Security number
  • Previous registration address
  • Your signature and the date

Receipt of a new Voter Card is the indication that your change was processed. If a new card does not arrive within two to four weeks (this may take longer if you submit changes close to the deadline before an election), please call us at 703-777-0380 to confirm that your notice was received.

When Can You Change Your Registration Information?

You may submit changes at any time, but the notice of your change must be received or postmarked no later than 29 days before the election in which you wish to participate. The processing of new registrants ceases and changes for voters cannot be processed after this time. You can check the dates of upcoming elections online.

Please Note: In most cases your new name printed on your application will suffice. In cases of a legal name change, documentation of the name change may be required.
