| Voter Registration and Elections
Voting for U.S. Citizens Abroad or in the Military Are you in the military, Merchant Marine, or are you a U.S. citizen currently living abroad? If you are an active duty member of the uniformed services with a domicile address in Loudoun County, or if you are temporarily abroad and maintain residence and place of abode at an address in Loudoun County, you are eligible to receive a full ballot by mail for all elections. To request a ballot, you will need to fill out the Federal Post Card Application, a link to which is below: (You will need the free Adobe Reader, which is available to download here.) If you have questions while completing this application, please send an e mail to vote@loudoun.gov, or call the Voter Registration office at 703-777-0380. This application must be received by our office or postmarked no later than 29 days before the next Election Day if you need to register and no less than 7 days before Election Day if you have already registered. U.S. Citizen Abroad If you are a U.S. citizen and are living abroad, registration using the Federal Post Card Application will ensure that you are able to vote in federal elections. You may also be entitled to vote in state and local elections if your most recent U.S. residence or if your permanent residence is in Loudoun County. If you are overseas due to employment but no longer maintain residence in Loudoun County, you and any dependents residing with you may be eligible for temporary registration. You would receive a full ballot in all elections, provided you and dependents are registered to vote in your former precinct immediately prior to your departure, and your move overseas occurred after July 1, 1999. If you are residing abroad for other reasons and do not maintain a domicile in Loudoun County, as a U.S. citizen, you are still eligible for a federal ballot. Please complete the Federal Post Card Application. (See Federal Post Card link above). Your name will be placed on a temporary list for the two subsequent federal elections only. Your application must be received by our office or postmarked no later than 29 days before the election if you need to register and no less than seven days before Election Day IF you have already registered and are applying to vote. Information about upcoming elections is online: Other Important Information You must reapply for military/overseas absentee ballots when your overseas address changes. For Overseas Civilian Voters Civilians who have voted by absentee ballot as "Temporary Overseas Voters" must re-register when they return to Virginia. Returning civilians must complete and mail in a Virginia Voter Registration Application before the registration books close for the next election. |
