The Art Advisory Committee normally meets monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month, in the gallery located off the lobby of the County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E. in Leesburg. Background on the Committee & Collection The committee was formed in 1978 by the Board of Supervisors to help support the theme of the Loudoun County Government Center as a cultural leader and reflection of the community by establishing a process for collection and display of works of art in the government center and to provide a decorative quality to the building and grounds. In 1984 the Supervisors asked the committee to undertake, in addition to the program of almost monthly exhibitions, the establishment of a permanent collection of Loudoun artists. The collection consists of artwork from Loudoun County artists and subject matter relative to the county and has been developed through gifts of the artist or by donors who purchased works for the county government. All works have been approved by the Art Advisory Committee to provide a collection of works of professional quality and an inventory is on file. The collection of approximately 80 pieces includes works in oil, acrylic, pen and ink, charcoal, etc. The collection is hung in the hallways of the Loudoun County Government Center. Three sculptures by local artists, donated to the county in 1996 were placed in the center's gardens in 2005.
