The Heritage Preservation Plan outlines strategies for identifying, preserving and promoting Loudoun County's heritage resources in three major ways: resource protection, community education and heritage tourism. The plan recommends implementation steps, such as the creation of a Heritage Commission and a Heritage Register. Adoption of the plan came after an extensive public process, including the creation of a Board-appointed Citizens Advisory Committee, which helped to develop the draft plan recommended to the Planning Commission. The committee worked with county staff for more than six months to develop a draft plan with input from citizens, public and private organizations, and professionals working in various fields related to preservation.
