Department of Building and Development

The mission of the Department of Building and Development is to provide for the public's safety and welfare in relationship to public/private structures and facilities constructed in the county for the public's use by enforcement of best engineering practices and statewide building codes during design and construction; and to enhance the quality of life for all citizens by developing, administering and enforcing the county Zoning Ordinance and construction-related Codified Ordinances.

The department conducts oversight of all phases of construction within Loudoun County. This includes ensuring the proper subdivision of land, review/approval of design and construction plans, inspections during the construction phase, and final approval of projects for occupancy or use.
