Pandemic Influenza Response Plan
Loudoun County has been preparing for a possible flu pandemic for several years and has activated the Pandemic Influenza Response Plan plan. A copy of the county's Pandemic Influenza Response Plan is available online.
The Loudoun County Health Department encourages residents to follow these standard guidelines to stay healthy and reduce the spread of disease:
- If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- Sneeze and cough into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
- Wash your hands often, scrubbing your hands together for 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Get your seasonal flu vaccine now and, when available, the H1N1 flu vaccine.
There is no indication that there is a risk of getting the H1N1 (swine) flu virus from contact with pigs or from eating properly cooked pork products.
