The primary purpose of the Youth Service Division’s Day Camp Programs (Summer Daze, SummerFest, Specialty and Schools Out Camps) is to provide safe, accountable, fun recreational activities for children in grades K-8 (age 5 by the start of camp) year round. The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed to provide a work-study internship for rising 10–12 graders during the summer.
The camp activities are designed to enhance the development of leisure, social and physical skills. They are child-centered and child-directed. Recreation activities are planned and developed to meet the individual child’s special need or interests.
These goals and objectives are taken into account when preparing daily and weekly plans. They are to:
