| Claude Moore Park is looking for volunteers eager to share their love of nature and history with others. For example, Adopt-A-Trail volunteers maintain 11 miles of hiking trails, and native plant and historic herb gardens need seasonal care. Volunteer Information Teenagers Welcome: Join our Summer Naturalist Intern Program Teenagers (ages 13-18) who enjoy being outdoors in the natural world are encouraged to apply for volunteer positions as Summer Naturalist Interns at Claude Moore Park. Applications are accepted each spring for summer positions. Successful applicants will receive training in a variety of areas including nature study, outdoor safety, stewardship, habitat restoration, sharing nature with children, techniques for collecting natural specimens, park history and regulations. Interns are asked to volunteer a minimum of ten hours each month in June, July and August. Friends of Claude Moore Park Volunteers may also want to become a part of the Friends of Claude Moore Park. Previously called the Lanesville Heritage Preservation Society, Inc., the group recently voted to do business as The Friends of Claude Moore Park. This name better reflects the overall mission to increase public understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of Claude Moore Park. The Friends are a group of local citizens who volunteer their time to support the park by "preserving nature and history hand-in-hand." As an organized group, they assist with projects at the park and provide feedback and information to the full-time staff. This group assists with most of the park’s special events as well as with programs and projects. The group meets six times each year. For more information on volunteering at the park or on joining the Friends of Claude Moore Park, please contact the park at 571-258-3700. Also, feel free to download a Friends of Claude Moore Park Membership Application. |
