The Highways and Transportation Planning Division assesses safety and operational deficiencies in the road system and works with the Virginia Department of Transportation, municipalities, developers and others to undertake improvements.The Highway Division is involved in many activities intended to improve travel conditions for the traveling public. Beyond the advancement of road projects, other aspects of our work include:
review of development proposals and associated traffic impacts;
negotiation with developers regarding private participation in various transportation improvements;
review and comment on VDOT construction plans, forecasting future traffic conditions;
updating the Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP) and other planning documents in cooperation with other jurisdictions;
researching and preparing applications for various grant programs; and
review of draft state legislation pertaining to transportation issues of importance to Loudoun County.

The Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP) serves as a guide for future transportation infrastructure investment to be financed by federal, state and local dollars as well as private sector contributions. The CTP is in the process of being updated. Information about the update and the documents comprising the adopted 2001 plan are online:
