1. How do I find out who owns a property?

The easiest way is to use the Online Mapping System, which allows you to search for an address or parcel identification number or to search the assessment database.

2. Do you have a plat of my property?

We have most subdivision plats, but not all. We do not have house location plats. Legally recorded plats are kept in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court.

3. Can I get the mapped data digitally?

Yes, we distribute all of the Geographic Information System (GIS) data for the cost of reproduction. However, you will need access to GIS or computer-aided design (CAD) software to use it.

4. If I need an address what do I need to do?

It depends on the size of the lot and the property use.

• For commercial properties, the site plan must be approved and a Data Exchange Format (DXF) file submitted to our office before an address can be assigned.


• For planned subdivisions less than a 1 acre lot, addresses are released at the time of plat recordation.


• For residential properties greater than 1 acre, you need to fill out an address application and attach a plat of the property with the house location and driveway marked. The address is assigned and you are notified usually within 72 hours.

5. Who can help me find a parcel identification number (PIN) or tax map number?

We can almost always find a PIN or tax map number if we have an address or general location of the property. Please contact the Office of Mapping and Geographic Information by calling 703-771-5778.

6. How do I get my Loudoun County address added to Google Maps or another private map service?

Internet mapping websites such as Yahoo Maps, Google Maps, and MapQuest receive their data from two private firms, TomTom and NAVTEQ. They do not purchase any data from Loudoun County. If you find that your address or street does not show up on these sites, you can report the errors to these companies directly. Each mapping website also has a Help or Feedback section where you can report errors.
