1. How do I get a referral?

To obtain a referral you must contact your home school and request a referral from your guidance counselor.

2. How long is the referral process?

Once the referral is requested from the counselor it takes one to three weeks to complete the referral process.

3. I’m a senior. Who issues my diploma?

Your diploma will be issued by your home school. You will also receive a certificate of completion from the Young Adults Project.

4. Are electives offered?

Most elective courses along with physical education are not offered.

5. What type of transportation is provided and who provides it?

The Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-76, permits school boards to provide transportation for students but does not require them to do so. For students attending Young Adults Project, daily bus service may be provided.

6. How much does the program cost?

The program is free. All books and supplies are provided by Young Adults Project.

7. What are the program hours?

The program day starts at 9:40 am and ends at 3:40 pm. Students who arrive after 9:40 am are considered late and must get a tardy pass from the Behavior Specialist.

8. Are meals provided?

Yes, a light breakfast of cereal bars, fruit, and juice is provided free of charge. Breakfast is served from 9:00 am - 9:30 am. YAP will provide a cold lunch free of charge. Lunch consists of cold deli meats, fruit, chips, drinks, and dessert. Pizza is delivered once weekly. The Transition Program students generally cook once weekly. Students may choose to bring their own lunch. A refrigerator is provided for students to use to hold their lunches.

9. Does YAP follow the same calendar as Loudoun County Public Schools?

Yes. YAP adheres to the Loudoun County Public School attendance policies, calendar, and weather delay schedule. There are two additional holidays highlighted in red on the YAP Student Calendar.
