Show All Answers
1.
What does it cost to ride Tysons Express?
Passenger fare for Tysons Express is $3 when paid with a SmarTrip® card or $3.50 exact cash per ride.
2.
What is a SmarTrip card and how can I obtain one?
SmarTrip is the rechargeable, electronic farecard accepted on Metro, Tysons Express, LC Transit and most regional buses. The card can store up to $300 in value. The cost of a SmarTrip card is $5 regardless of where it is purchased. It is available at the Loudoun County Government Center in Leesburg and other locations listed at the
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority
website.
3.
Where do passengers board buses in Loudoun County?
Tysons Express departs from the Harmony, Leesburg, Goose Creek Village and Broadlands park & ride lots. Additionally, there are departures from the Broadlands Market Place. All of these locations provide easy access to the Dulles Greenway.
4.
How long does it take to reach work?
As commuters know, the travel time to Tysons Corner can vary depending on road and weather conditions. The construction of Dulles Metrorail may contribute to significant delays for all travelers in the Tysons Corner area. Tysons Express travels the safest, most direct route to reach Tysons Corner. Since the buses have access to the Dulles Greenway, HOV lanes, and the Dulles Airport Access Highway, bus travel meets or greatly reduces the travel time of a private vehicle.
5.
What if I ride Tysons Express to work and then need to leave work due to illness or an emergency at home?
Emergency rides home are available through the
Commuter Connections
Guaranteed Ride Home program. Those who take transit or share rides at least twice per week are encouraged to register for this free service. The program provides up to four free emergency rides home per year.
6.
Where can I find the latest information on Metrorail to Dulles and any traffic delays caused by construction?
Two excellent sources for up-to-date information are the
Virginia Mega Project
website and the
Dulles Coordinator Metrorail Project
website. The sites feature the latest news, maps, and background information on Dulles Metro and major transportation construction projects.
7.
How can I stay current on the status of Tysons Express service?
Loudoun County has an email notification system for prospective Tysons Express passengers. To register, send an email to
rideshare@loudoun.gov
and include Tysons Express in the subject line.
8.
How is the Tysons Express Bus Service funded?
The bus service is being funded by the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. The project includes a Transportation Management Plan (TMP) designed to offset traffic congestion that normally results with construction in or adjacent to a roadway system. One of the primary goals of the TMP is to improve transportation for those traveling from Loudoun County to Tysons Corner during the construction of the rail project.
9.
Can I ride Tysons Express to Reston or Herndon?
No. The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project’s TMP has a specific mission of reducing congestion in Tysons. Buses travel from park-and-ride lots in Loudoun County to stops in Tysons Corner. Buses travel non-stop on the Dulles Greenway and the Dulles Airport Access Highway to minimize the travel time for Tysons Corner commuters.
10.
How many departure times are offered?
The funding from the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project provides four commuter coaches operating seven morning departures and seven afternoon / evening returns.
11.
What kind of comforts can I expect when riding Tysons Express?
Passengers ride on 55-passenger commuter coaches with reclining seats, overhead lighting and free wi-fi. Coaches are also equipped with a restroom.
12.
What other options exist for those who commute to Tysons Corner?
The Loudoun County Office of Transportation Services helps individuals and employers with the formation of carpools, vanpools and telework programs. View
