General Purpose
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the formation of the Loudoun Health Council at its May 2, 2006, business meeting. The Health Council held its first meeting on November 16, 2006.
The mission of the Loudoun Health Council is to develop a consensus on strategies to prepare for and respond to a major outbreak of disease; to improve the health of the community in general; to increase the value of the local health care system for the entire community; to align community resources with selected priorities for action; and to identify where resources should be concentrated. Members
The Loudoun Health Council includes representatives from the health care, business, faith and non-profit communities, from health-related county government agencies, from Loudoun's town governments, and from the general public.
Meetings
All Loudoun Health Council meetings are open to the public and input from those who live or work in Loudoun County is welcomed and appreciated. The Health Council typically meets the second Thursday of every month from 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E. in Leesburg. Subcommittees
The Health Council has four subcommittees that also meet monthly and are open to the public. These subcommittees, along with their goal statements, include:

Access to Care - to identify opportunities for the Loudoun Health Council to help bridge the gaps in access to health care for all Loudoun residents;

Emergency Preparedness - to identify and address the major risks to the public's health from outbreaks of disease and other public health related emergencies;

Health Promotion - to promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention through dissemination of information and education about available resources and services in Loudoun County; and,
-
Mental Health – to identify challenges and barriers to meeting the needs of Loudoun’s residents with mental health and substance abuse disorders; and to identify and support solutions and strategies to improve the public’s mental health.
