The
Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) program provides technical information to agricultural and horticultural producers and landscape managers about recommended practices and techniques for topics such as:
- Alternative crops
- Breeding, selection, animal health, and marketing
- Crop production
- Pest, disease, and plant identification
- Pesticide recommendations for insect, weed, disease, and nematode control
- Promoting Chesapeake Bay cleanup
- Reducing soil erosion, improving water quality, and stopping pollution
Master Gardener
Through the
Master Gardener program, the Virginia Cooperative Extension recruits and trains volunteers to assist the public on horticultural matters. Volunteers provide educational programming on vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, lawns, yard waste management, insects, diseases, weeds, and water quality.
Commercial Horticulture
The Commercial Horticulture program offers technical and educational support in the production and management of horticultural crops such as Christmas trees, shade trees, turf, greenhouse plants, vegetables, and grapes and other fruits. Technical and educational support is also offered in yard waste management, professional landscape services, municipal landscape management, and arboricultural services.
