First-Time Homebuyer Education Classes
The Loudoun County Department of Family Services provides free homebuyer education classes with a curriculum provided by the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) to assist first-time homebuyers in understanding the home-buying process. This six-hour class provides information on a number of topics relating to homeownership, including:
- The mortgage process
- What to expect at settlement
- Working with a Realtor
The classes are held several times throughout the year over a two-evening time period from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm at different locations. The 2013 schedule is available online:
Attendance at both sessions is required to receive a Completion Certificate. The class size for each workshop is limited, so early registration is advised. Participants must pre-register by contacting Chris Vogel of the Department of Family Services at 703-777-0353. You may also contact Chris Vogel if you require any type of reasonable accommodation, as the result of physical, sensory, or mental disability, to participate in this program. Three days notice is requested.
A completion certificate from this class fulfills the homebuyer education requirement for many Loudoun County housing programs, including the Affordable Dwelling Unit Purchase, Neighborhood Stabilization, and financing programs. It will also fulfill the education requirements for Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) financing.
