Through meetings, workshops, surveys and other participatory methods, Loudoun County provides opportunities for active citizen engagement and input regarding community and other strategic planning initiatives countywide. The Department of Planning and Zoning also conducts public outreach to increase the community's awareness and understanding of the county's land use planning and growth management policies, its administration of historic districts, and efforts to preserve and manage county heritage resources.
Ashburn Community Outreach
Following the success of previous outreach efforts, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors initiated the Ashburn Community Outreach Project. The purpose of the project was to conduct a dialogue with citizens of the Ashburn community in order to identify neighborhood and community-wide priorities and to develop recommended strategies to aid in future planning and programmatic activities. Route 28 Business Outreach
The Route 28 Business Outreach project engaged the county's business sector in formulating a set of principles to model future strategic planning efforts for the acceleration of economic development in the Route 28 Corridor. One-on-one interviews and Board forums were held with commercial property owners, developers, and HOA representatives in the corridor. The information obtained from the forums and the interviews were summarized and presented in a report to the Board of Supervisors in June of 2009. The outreach project informed the creation of the Route 28 Corridor Plan; a set of policies that support a greater absorption of high-quality, Class A Office into Loudoun County. Currently, the Planning Department is managing the Route 28 Corridor Zoning Ordinance Update project. The project is an effort to amend Loudoun County's Revised 1993 Zoning Ordinance to reflect the policies contained in the Route 28 Corridor Plan adopted by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
