Joint Architectural Review Board Preservation Awards
Joint Architectural Review Board Preservation Awards

Leesburg, Middleburg, Purcellville, and Loudoun County each administer local historic districts and each jurisdiction has a review board to evaluate proposed projects in the respective districts.

The boards collaborated to create the Joint Architectural Review Board (JARB) and an annual awards program which recognizes exceptional projects in the ten locally designated historic districts. Each year, the awards are presented in the month of May in conjunction with National Preservation Month. In 2011, the JARB expanded the awards program and created the Community Blue Ribbon Award. This award was designed to recognize projects outside of the locally designated districts based on nominations from the community.

About the Program
The purpose of the JARB awards program is to:
  • Promote preservation efforts countywide
  • Reward exemplary projects which contribute to the county’s historic, living communities
  • Thank property owners for participating in the architectural review process and their contribution to the county’s historic preservation efforts

The historic districts in the towns and the county are areas that boast the highest quantity and quality of significant historic and cultural assets. There are property owners in the districts that are doing outstanding work and contributing to their communities in a very tangible and lasting way. The award program is a small way to commend those efforts.
