Certified Local Government
Preserving Loudoun County's Historic Resources

In addition to administering and providing professional support for Loudoun County’s seven historic districts, the Planning Department undertakes other projects and activities that work to protect historic resources and educate citizens about historic preservation.

Since Loudoun County is a Certified Local Government (CLG), the county received state grant money to create a web-based, interactive guide to the county's historic districts. CLG grant money also helped fund the revision and publication of the county’s updated Historic District Guidelines.

For the past two years, the county’s Historic District Review Committee (HDRC) has collaborated with the Architectural Review Boards of Leesburg, Middleburg, and Purcellville to create the Joint Architectural Review Board (JARB) and award residents for outstanding preservation projects in the county. The HDRC also reviews and comments on National Register Nominations made for properties located in the county.
