On April 1, 2015, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors granted the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors the authorization to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shunyi District, Beijing, the Peoples Republic of China, to establish a Sister County/City partnership with the emphasis of the MOU on Economic Development.
Shunyi District is part of the greater Beijing region. Loudoun County and Shunyi District share some similarities. Shunyi is a wealthy suburb of a major economic hub in Beijing. Shunyi also has a complimentary economic development focus,with an emphasis on the aviation, Information Technology, and agricultural science and technology industries. Loudoun Delegation Visit Shunyi District for Historic Signing
A Loudoun County delegation visited the Shunyi District in May 2016 for the historic signing of a marketing agreement between Washington-Dulles International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport.
