Hanson Park Master Plan
The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, in conjunction with the county's Department of Construction and Waste Management, is working to develop a Regional Park on an approximately 257-acre parcel along Evergreen Mills Road, known as the Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park.  The master planning process for the Hanson Regional Park began in December 2011.  The county has contracted with two firms to serve as the design team for the project:  HGA (formerly known as Wisnewski Blair and Associates) – Architecture and Design - of  Alexandria, and Kimley-Horn and Associates – Design and Consulting - of Reston.

The design team developed a strategy to prepare the master plan and incorporate input from county residents and community groups. There were three public input sessions where the design team met with the community to present ideas, solicit feedback, and incorporate shared concepts into evolving iterations of the master plan for the park. Detailed information about the public input sessions can be found at the following link:

Current Project Status

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park Master Plan at their business meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2012.  The powerpoint presentation, proposed Master Plan layout, and documents for the meeting are posted online:

Replays of the Board of Supervisors' meeting webcast are available for viewing through the webcast system here.

The approved master plan layout will assist in the development of the special exception application, which is required to allow the park use and athletic field lighting on the property.  The special exception application, which requires the approval of the Board of Supervisors, will also be reviewed by the county's Planning Commission. The special exception process will require two public hearings to be conducted, where additional public input regarding the park will be gathered prior to special exception approval and the development of the site plan for the park. Dates of the scheduled Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors' meetings regarding review of the Hanson Park Special Exception will be posted to this website once they are known.
