The mission of the Department of Building and Development is to

• Enhance the quality of life for all citizens by developing, administering, and enforcing the county Zoning Ordinance and construction-related codified ordinances
• Provide for the public's safety and welfare in relationship to public / private structures and facilities constructed in the county for the public's use through enforcement of best engineering practices and statewide building codes during design and construction

Department Responsibilities
The department conducts oversight of all phases of construction within Loudoun County. This includes ensuring the proper subdivision of land, review / approval of design and construction plans, inspections during the construction phase, and final approval of projects for occupancy or use.
