Voting Information

All Loudoun County residents ages 18 and older are eligible to vote in county elections. Voters must first register with the General Registrar’s office, which offers year-round voter registration for general, primary, and special elections in conjunction with various public service agencies, military recruitment offices and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

For the convenience of the citizens of Loudoun County, the Voter Registration Office at 801 Sycolin Road, S.E., Suite 102, Leesburg, is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Voter applications may be obtained at:

  • Loudoun County Voter Registration Office
  • Loudoun County Community Centers
  • Loudoun County Public Libraries
  • Offices of the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue
  • Offices of the Loudoun County Treasurer
  • DMV Offices

Applications may be submitted in person or by mail. The General Registrar's office also supplies absentee ballots to eligible voters upon request. A voter registration form is available on the Virginia State Board of Elections website.

Elections for county offices and ballot initiatives are generally held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November and, for town elections, on the first Tuesday in May.

Electoral Board

The Electoral Board is composed of three appointed members who are responsible for running elections in the county, including hiring pollworkers, choosing polling places, printing ballots, maintaining financial reports of candidates, and organizing election procedures.

Election Equipment

Our primary voting equipment is the Premier Election Solutions Optical Scanner, which uses a marked paper ballot read by a light reader. One optical scanner is placed in every polling place. Our Help America Vote Act (HAVA)-mandated voting equipment is the Premier Election Solutions  Touchscreen (TSX). One TSX also is placed in every polling place. HAVA mandates that every polling place have an Americans with Disabilities (ADA)- compliant piece of voting equipment in every polling place.
