Juvenile Detention Center
The Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) is a secure facility that provides pre- and post-dispositional detention of youth as ordered by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. This is accomplished in a safe, secure, and humane setting with policies, programs, and an environment that supports good mental and physical health.

Youth are permitted to write and receive mail from parents, friends, and anyone not specifically excluded by a Court Order or by legal guardian. All incoming mail and photos must be received through the US Postal Office, UPS, or Federal Express.

Incoming calls to youth are not permitted. However, youth are permitted two opportunities each week to call approved family members/legal guardians. Youth are permitted to use the telephone for business calls, i.e., lawyers, probation officers, etc.
In order for a youth to be administered medication, prior approval is required either by the youth’s personal physician, or the Juvenile Detention Center doctor. Any medication brought in must be in the proper container with the proper prescription label or it will not be accepted.
Please note that parents/legal guardians are responsible for any cost associated with their child’s medical needs (i.e., prescription refills and/or doctor and emergency visits) while at the JDC.

Students enroll in Greenway Academy and receive 5 1/2 hours of education each day, which may include English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Health and PE, Music, Industry Certifications, SOL tests, and GED prep. Grades are sent to the student's base school and parent/guardian upon release.

The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) requires that the JDC collect accurate, uniform data for every allegation of sexual abuse at the facility using a standardized instrument and set of definitions. This information shall be aggregated at least annually. The data collected shall include, at a minimum, the data necessary to answer all questions from the most recent version of the Survey of Sexual Violence conducted by the Department of Justice.
For the past calendar year, the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center has not had any allegations of sexual abuse.
Per PREA Standards §115.393 – 405, the JDC was audited in June 2019. The JDC is fully PREA compliant. The most recent audit report can be viewed here. The JDC is audited for PREA compliance every three years.
