Established in 1991 by a group of dedicated volunteers from local churches, LHR was committed to offer support and solutions to several groups of people: the working poor whose income is insufficient to cover basic necessities, the unemployed, the elderly or the sick who cannot compete in the workplace and the homeless. Today, the mission has remained the same and we continue to see an increase in need.
LHR’s core service is the Emergency Food Distribution Program. We serve our clients by providing households with a three day supply of food sufficient to prepare three well balanced meals for each person in the household. Each household is eligible to receive this service twice a month. In order to receive our services, we only ask for proof of Loudoun residency and a picture ID. From time to time, clients – such as the homeless – cannot provide proof of residency or a picture ID. For those, we still provide a one day supply of food.
