Virginia law requires all voters to provide an acceptable form of identification at the polls. Voters arriving to the polls without acceptable identification will be required to either sign an affidavit of identity OR vote provisionally.
Virginia’s identification requirements also apply to absentee voters who vote in-person in all elections.
Acceptable forms of identification
Acceptable forms of identification for in-person voting include the following:
Voter Card or Voter Confirmation Document
Virginia drivers license
Virginia DMV-issued photo ID
United States passport
Employer-issued photo ID
Student ID issued by any community college or university located in the United States
Other US or Virginia government issued photo ID
Tribal enrollment or other tribal photo ID
Virginia Voter photo ID card
A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government issued check, paycheck, or other government issued document containing the name and address of the voter
