Animal Services Facility

Overview

  • This project will construct a new animal services building in Leesburg to serve as the primary location for Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS), replacing the existing building in Waterford.
  • The new animal services facility will be 21,450 square feet and will have kennels, indoor and outdoor spaces, a veterinary clinic, a multi-purpose room, and a split lobby for adoptions and surrenders.
  • The new facility will become the first public animal shelter in the United States to meet 100% of the animal shelter guidelines established by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians.
  • The project is estimated for completion in the summer of 2020.

Current Status: April 2020

  • In the last month, crews completed the majority of the structural work for the facility and began installing interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • The contractor is currently placing steel bar joists that will support the roofing and flooring systems.
  • Work to install exterior systems that protect the structure from weather is underway and should be completed in the next few months.
