This project provides funding to design and construct a new 22,000 square foot replacement station for the Sterling Volunteer Fire and Rescue Companies at the corner of East Holly Avenue and Commerce Street in Sterling.
The new station will replace the current 8,772-square-foot building on this site dating from 1970, and provide more storage and parking. The one-acre property will also expand by a third of an acre.
Features of the facility will include a reception area, meeting and training rooms, bunk rooms, a kitchen, an exercise room, offices, apparatus bays, and storage space for equipment and gear.
Funding for this project uses general obligation bonds and cash proffers.
The construction is expected to take 18 months to complete, weather permitting.
Current Status: November 2020
At the November 17, 2020 Board of Supervisors meeting, Kinsley Construction was awarded the construction contract.
The project design phase was completed in the last quarter of FY 2020.
Construction is estimated to begin by winter 2021.
