Selected Links to Loudoun County Detailed DHC-A Data

The following table provides links to sex-by-age tables for Loudoun County for different detailed groups, as reported in the Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File-A (Detailed DHC-A). For the race groups, data are available for both the race alone population and the race alone or in any combination population. The race alone population represents the minimum number of people who identified as that group. It includes those who reported only one response. The race alone or in any combination population represents the maximum number of people who identified as that group. It includes those who reported only one response, and those who reported multiple responses. Each group with a “race alone” population of at least 4,200 (about 1% of the total population) is listed in the table below.

*The DHC-A includes two categories for Black or African American, not including detailed groups from regions such as Sub-Saharan African or Caribbean. Loudoun County staff is confirming with the Census Bureau that data should be shown on two separate rows.

Note: On the 2020 Census Questionnaire there was a question about race, and a separate question about Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish origin, which is considered an ethnicity, rather than a race. The Race Alone or in Combination table is not provided for Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish groups.

As with the other three releases, the Detailed DHC-A release adds and subtracts a small amount of statistical noise to statistics, to make it harder to figure out the identity or characteristics of specific individuals. The algorithm used for the Detailed DHC-A differs from the first three releases, however. For the Detailed DHC-A, aggregating geographies will increase the impact of the “noise,” rather than cancelling it out. The Detailed DHC-A release also incorporates “adaptive design” to determine the level of detail appropriate for the sex-by-age tables. Whether the table for a given detailed group has 4, 9, or 23 sex-by-age categories is based on the group’s population.
