Design of Route 9 and 287 Roundabout Nears Completion

Posted on November 23, 2020 at 3:33 PM by Heidi Kellum

The design process for the Route 9 and 287 Roundabout project is nearing completion. Loudoun County’s design consultant is working with the Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure to finalize the design and submit final plans for construction approval from all agencies in December 2020. Comments on the 90% roadway design plans and waiver submission, received from Loudoun County Business and Development (B&D) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in September, will be addressed in the final design.

Construction will follow the completion of ongoing utility coordination and right of way (ROW) acquisition, estimated to begin spring 2021.

The Route 9 and 287 Roundabout project consists of approximately one mile of roadway improvements, including a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 287. Improvements will also include new drainage and storm water facilities, as well as relocation of some utilities.

When complete, the project will significantly reduce existing traffic congestion, improve safety and provide a long-term, cost-effective solution for future maintenance.

Progress Continues on the Design of Route 9 and 287 Roundabout

Posted on August 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM by Shawn Zelman

Loudoun County’s design consultant has submitted the 90% roadway design plans to Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Loudoun County’s Building and Development for their review and comments. Once these comments are received, the design consultant will finalize the design and submit final plans to obtain construction approval from all agencies winter of 2020.

In late June, a utility field inspection meeting was held with all of the existing utility companies within the project limits. Coordination with these utility companies will be ongoing for any needed utility relocations.

In January 2020, Loudoun County’s design consultant delivered 60% design plans and a Floodplain Report to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the County’s Department of Building and Development for review.

Feedback from the review has been received and provided to Loudoun County’s design consultant to be incorporated into the 90% roadway design plans, estimated for completion by early summer 2020.
