Crews Prepare to Demolish Four Houses on Edwards Ferry Road

Posted on February 4, 2020 at 1:38 PM by Heidi Kellum

The official start of construction for the new courthouse project remains on hold for a few more weeks; however, some related work is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 10, 2020.

As part of the project, four houses on Edwards Ferry Road are slated for demolition. Beginning next week, crews will begin preparing the structures for demolition. Preparations will include the removal of all asbestos-containing materials from the interior and exterior of the four houses. As a result, members of the public may notice workers wearing protective gear as they clean up the structures. In addition, in accordance with regulations, the contractor will post signs notifying people of the potential hazards should they access the houses. However, unauthorized access into the houses is strictly prohibited. These preparations are scheduled to last approximately two weeks.

Later in the month, demolition crews will begin to tear down the four structures in preparation for the start of construction of the new courthouse building. The Church Street and Semones parking lots will remain open during the work on the Edwards Ferry Road homes.

In the coming weeks, the final preparations for construction should be complete and the county will announce when the start of construction is scheduled to begin. At that time, the Church Street and Semones parking lots will close for the duration of the construction project.
