[ARCHIVED] Free Spay & Neuter Clinic for Community Cats Scheduled for May 17

Logo for Animal Services

The newly formed Loudoun Community Cat Coalition will hold a free spay and neuter clinic focused solely on community cats Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Leesburg Veterinary Hospital, 19463 James Monroe Highway in Leesburg. Each cat served at the free clinic will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, provided medical care as needed, and ear tipped. Ear-tipping of the left ear of community cats indicates that the cat has been sterilized and vaccinated. Details about the clinic and a link to register are online at Non-Loudoun residents are welcome to participate in the clinic; however a fee of $50 will be assessed for each cat receiving surgical services.

The Loudoun County Department of Animal Services is a member of the Loudoun Community Cat Coalition, whose purpose is to assist Loudoun County’s animal welfare community in addressing the hundreds of requests received each year regarding community and feral cats. Community cats live outdoors and are not socialized to people. While they are the same species as the domesticated cats that people have as pets, they have not lived with people and are therefore not ideal as indoor pet companions.

In addition to the Loudoun County Department of Animal Services, coalition members include Caring Hands Animal Support and Education (CHASE), Humane Society of Loudoun County, Loudoun County Animal Services, Towne Animal Clinic, Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, Loudoun County Veterinary Medical Association and Alley Cat Allies.
