Current Metrorail SafeTrack Surge Ends Dec. 20; Loudoun Buses Return to Regular Schedule Dec. 21

The current phase of the Metrorail maintenance program SafeTrack, which has directly affected some Loudoun County Transit riders, is scheduled to end Tuesday, December 20, 2016 - one day earlier than originally scheduled. This will allow Loudoun County to resume its normal bus schedules on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Those schedules are available online at www.loudoun.gov/BusSchedules .

SafeTrack is a year-long, extensive maintenance program which includes track outages of long duration in key parts of the Metrorail system. The 11th “surge” of the SafeTrack plan reduced the frequencies of trains at the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station from six minutes to approximately every 20 minutes. The surge resulted in single tracking between the West Falls Church and East Falls Church Metro stations.

Meanwhile, Loudoun County’s commuter buses will operate on special schedules the afternoon of Friday, December 23, 2016, and will have limited service Tuesday, December 27 through Friday, December 30, 2016. There will be no service on Monday, December 26, 2016, or Monday, January 2, 2017. The modified schedules are online at www.loudoun.gov/BusChanges .

Loudoun County Transit officials encourage commuters to stay informed about updates and changes to bus service by signing up for Bus Biz at www.loudoun.gov/BusBiz . Commuters can also sign up for local traffic alerts through Alert Loudoun at www.loudoun.gov/alert . Loudoun County offers information on commuting options at www.loudoun.gov/commute .
