Live Healthy Loudoun Launches New Website to Track Community Health Outcomes

A new online resource to provide accurate and timely data, best practices, and other information to promote health and well-being in Loudoun County was launched at the Loudoun Health Council meeting Thursday.

The Community Health Dashboard, at www.livehealthyloudoun.org, tracks more than 100 key health and quality-of-life indicators across different topics, including health, economy, education, environment, government and politics, public safety, social environment and transportation. It also allows users to look up promising practices, create customized reports and search for funding opportunities for community-level programs that can address the root causes of health disparities.

Launching the dashboard helps Loudoun County achieve one of its priority issues for the community. In recent years, the Loudoun Health Council facilitated a series of local community health assessments and published a report that identified four priority areas for improving health in the next five years. This dashboard will be critical in tracking progress in meeting the goals in these areas.

Data related to health outcomes and the social determinants of health, such as household income or education, can often be found scattered among various local and state agencies and databases, making it difficult to find and even harder to use the data in a meaningful way.

With the launch of the dashboard, information from a variety of data sources will be more easily accessible in one place for anyone interested in learning more about the Loudoun community, including service providers, policy makers, students and the general public.

“The dashboard provides an easy-to-use performance monitoring system to track the status of indicators and progress toward health goals, as well as to monitor community health improvement over time,” says Loudoun County Health Director Dr. David Goodfriend. “We believe this site will be a wonderful tool for helping to forge new creative partnerships and develop innovative strategies for making the Loudoun community a healthier place to live, work and play, and we welcome feedback on how best to improve the site to better meet the community’s needs.”

With the dashboard, users can:
  • Access social, health and demographic data by topic or geographic location within Loudoun County;
  • Find data broken down by age, gender, and race/ethnicity, where available;
  • View multiple health indicators at once, or a single indicator across multiple locations, including by zip code, county or census tract;
  • Compare county indicators to the national targets identified in Healthy People 2020
  • Link to similar dashboards in neighboring jurisdictions; and
  • Build customized reports on health topics of interest.

The Community Health Dashboard is online at www.livehealthyloudoun.org
