Loudoun County Celebrates Widening of Waxpool Road

Loudoun County officials are celebrating the completion of another significant road project: the widening of Waxpool Road from Unbridled Way to Faulkner Parkway, which will alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

The project widened 3,400 linear feet of Waxpool Road from two-lanes to a four-lane, median-divided roadway with an asphalt trail on portions of the north side of the road and a sidewalk on portions of the south side. As part of the project, a traffic signal was installed at the intersection of Ashburn Village Boulevard and Waxpool Road.

On Thursday, members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors joined with representatives of the Virginia Department of Transportation, Loudoun County government staff, members of the project team and members of the community for a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

This segment of Waxpool Road serves as an east-west regional roadway and also functions as an alternate route to the Dulles Greenway. It extends from Belmont Ridge Road to the west and intersects with Route 28 to the east. Several commercial and retail establishments, data centers, residential communities and schools, such as Discovery Elementary School, will benefit from the project.

Construction on the project began in 2014. The total cost of the project was $5.486 million.
