Warnick, 58, for the 1988 murder of Henry E. Ryan. Now in custody in Florida on unrelated charges, Warnick was indicted by a Loudoun County Grand Jury Monday on charges of 1st Degree murder and robbery. Ryan was known by his friends and family as “Ricky” and he was last seen on Friday, September 30th, 1988, leaving a roadside pull off along the Shenandoah River on Bloomery Road in West Virginia. According to witnesses, “Ricky” Ryan went on a beer run in the company of Timothy Warnick and another unidentified male and did not return. Ryan’s family reported him missing and on March 14th, 1989 his body was located in a shallow grave off of Route 9 in Loudoun County near the West Virginia border. An autopsy confirmed that he was murdered. Ryan was 29 years old at the time of his death. The detectives assigned to the Cold Case Unit have been working diligently to solve cases, such as Ryan’s, through advances in technology and investigative techniques. Ryan’s case received its break from continued interviews of family members, friends, and witnesses which established a timeline of events for the “person of interest”. This continuing investigation revealed information of Warnick’s involvement and actions leading up to Ryan’s death. Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman implemented a cold case initiative upon taking office in January 2012 to take a closer look at unsolved cases the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has investigated in past years. This initiative resulted in the formation of the Cold Case Unit in April, 2012 which allowed detectives to focus on death investigation cases that have grown cold over the years. Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office worked closely with the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office during the investigation ###
