Loudoun County, VA – Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office correctional recruits took the top honors and leadership roles during the third session of the Skyline Regional Criminal Justice Academy.   

The members of the graduating class for Jail Officer Basic #3 are Gaetano Fanelli, David Goldberg, Troy Lewis, Melissa Nuar, Daniel Peguero, Elsy Santos-Gomez, Mangat Singh, Dylan Smeal, Seth Smith, and Kossi Yao. 

Deputy Peguero took the highest honor in receiving the Ricky L. Timbrook Award, named in honor of the fallen Winchester Police Department Officer. The award goes to the recruit who personifies the highest standards. Deputy Peguero also served as the Session #3 class leader. 

Deputy Santos-Gomez received the top academic achievement award, Deputy Singh took the top skills achievement award, Deputy Yao took the top overall achievement award and Deputy Goldberg took the top physical fitness award (male). 

Deputy Fanelli and Deputy Smeal took second and third in the top academic achievement category. Deputy Smith took third in the top skills achievement category and was also elected class speaker for today’s graduation ceremony. Deputy Singh and Deputy Fanelli took second and third in the top physical fitness award with Deputy Nuard placing third in the top physical fitness female category.  

“Their hard work was recognized today and the achievements of these deputies are a testament to their skills as well as their desire to serve Loudoun County. We look forward to having them be a part of the professional team at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office,” said Loudoun Sheriff Mike Chapman.

The new correctional deputies will begin a several month in-house training program at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center (ADC). The state-of-the-art facility opened in the summer of 2007 and houses maximum, medium and minimum security level inmates.    

 The Skyline Regional Criminal Justice Academy is a Virginia regional training academy which trains basic and veteran law enforcement officers, correctional officers and communications officers for agencies across Virginia.
