Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is pleased to announce that the Department has been awarded $253,551.82 in Federal funding through the FY 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – COVID 19 Supplemental Program. The funding is part of the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the FEMA Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP).
The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program - COVID-19 Supplemental is to provide funds to public safety agencies for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) and related supplies, including reimbursements, to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue will utilize these grant funds to purchase additional equipment and PPE supplies as outlined below:
- Portable aerosolizing decontamination systems that will be used to disinfect rooms, vehicles, and equipment with an EPA-approved, hospital-grade disinfectant. For instance, the devices will be used to protect first responders by disinfecting ambulances after transportation of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases.
- Half-facepiece respirators with cartridges will be purchased for each Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LC-CFRS) operational member. The facepieces may be disinfected after each use, provide coverage for front-line emergency personnel during periods where disposable N95 and related respiratory protection equipment is not available.
- Individual PPE kits will be purchased for each LC-CFRS operational member that will carry personal protective equipment to aid in the protection against COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.
