Early this morning, Loudoun County firefighters responded to a house fire in Round Hill that displaced five residents and caused $586,000 in damages.
Just before 1:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2020, fire and rescue units from Round Hill, Purcellville, Hamilton, Philomont, Leesburg, Loudoun Heights, and Clarke County, along with several command officers, responded to the 35000 block of Hamlet Court in Round Hill for a house fire. Multiple 911 calls to the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center reported fire coming from the garage.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a two-story, single-family home with visible fire from the attached garage and heavy smoke coming from the roofline. All occupants were located safely outside upon arrival of first responders. Crews deployed hoselines to extinguish the bulk of the fire in the garage as additional firefighters made their way inside the home. As firefighters made entry, the fire vented through the roof and began spreading rapidly across the entire attic space. Evacuation tones were immediately sounded, pulling all firefighters out of the structure. A master stream from the truck company was used to knock fire down from the exterior until it was safe for crews to re-enter to extinguish hot spots and overhaul operations.
The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fire was accidental, due to an overloaded electrical circuit in the garage. The home sustained significant fire and water damage as did a vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence. The two adults and three children that were displaced are staying with family.
