The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating two recent arson fires in the Sterling area and is requesting any video or photos from either incident.
At approximately 10:00 p.m., on Friday January 15, 2021, fire and rescue units from Sterling, Ashburn, Kincora, Moorefield, Fairfax County, and the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office were dispatched for a reported structure fire at 45781 Maries Road in Sterling.
Incoming fire and rescue units arrived on scene to find the structure was fully involved with fire, and witnesses reported something exploding. The structure on fire was an old barn that had been utilized for storage before being abandoned. Due to the advanced state of the fire, firefighters on the scene initiated a rapid exterior attack and quickly brought the fire under control. It was determined that the reported explosion was a result of abandoned items in the barn.
The fire on January 15, 2021 was immediately adjacent to the location of a similar structure fire that firefighters responded to on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Both fires have been classified as incendiary or arson by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office. Suspects have been identified, interviewed and the investigation is on-going.
There are no reported injuries to citizens of fire and rescue personnel from either incident. At this time, there is no evidence to indicate a link to any of the surrounding businesses to include the neighboring data centers or the property owner. Anyone with video or pictures of either event are asked to contact the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office at 703-737-8600 or via email.
