General Purpose
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the formation of the Loudoun Health Council at its May 2, 2006, business meeting. The Health Council held its first meeting on November 16, 2006.

The mission of the Loudoun Health Council is to develop a consensus on strategies to prepare for and respond to a major outbreak of disease; to improve the health of the community in general; to increase the value of the local health care system for the entire community; to align community resources with selected priorities for action; and to identify where resources should be concentrated.  The Health Council's bylaws are available online.

Safe Drinking Water Initiative
The Loudoun Health Council is working to increase awareness of what residents can do to help protect their drinking water.  An important component of this is the proper disposal of unused medications.  Unneeded medications can be dropped of 24/7 safely at the Leesburg Police Department. Equally important is the periodic testing of well water for potentially harmful contaminants; a list of regulated contaminants under the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations is available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Lyme Disease Initiative
The Loudoun Health Council is working with the Loudoun Lyme Disease Commission to increase awareness of ways Loudoun residents can stay safe from Lyme disease.  More information is available at www.loudoun.gov/loudountargetslyme.

Loudoun Health Check Needs Assessment new
Every five years, the Loudoun Health Council conducts a public health needs assessment.  The most recent assessment was begun in 2013 and the results are available online.
