What to Do
Currently, the Loudoun County Health Department is not collecting dead birds for West Nile virus surveillance. West Nile virus has already been documented in the local avian population. Dead crows and blue jays can be disposed of by using gloves, shovel, etc. to place the bird in a plastic / paper bag and then put in a trash can. If buried, do not place in a plastic bag. Do not touch the bird with bare hands.
For further information or to report a dead bird, please contact the Loudoun County Health Department at 703-777-0234.
