Road Cases
Road Cases are documents filed with the court from 1757 to 1940 that pertain to the building of roads, bridges and gates in the county.  
  • Road Bills - Invoices and Payments for services and materials used building and repairing roads
  • Road Hands - People required to provide workers for the roads
  • Road Overseers - Men assigned by the court to be responsible for maintaining a road or section of road
  • Miscellaneous Road Papers - brief descriptions of how to determine what some of the miscellaneous papers are for, based on what their file number starts with, are listed below:
    • RM001 and RM002:  Commissioners assigned by the court to be responsible for a road or section of a road.
    • RM003: Petitions to either erect or remove gates across a road.
    • RM004: Court orders to Commissioners or Justices to take an action.
