Availability of Conservation Easements
Historic preservation easements are a type of conservation easement authorized by Virginia law.  Conservation easements are voluntary, legal agreements between landowners and non-profit land trusts that permanently limit use of designated land in order to protect its cultural, historical, scenic and/or other values.  In addition to protecting and conserving land, conservation easements may also provide owners with certain local, State and Federal tax benefits.  Landowner’s interested in seeking a conservation easement for all or a portion of their land should contact one of the many non-profit, Land Trust organizations in our area to learn more about the benefits of doing so. Preservation easements are administered by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources.  Click here for more information.
