The Loudoun County Planning Commission
is currently considering the draft Loudoun 2040 Comprehensive Plan
, which will serve as the county government's guide in land-use decisions and transportation policy for the future.
In July 2018, The Board of Supervisors forwarded the draft plan to the Planning Commission for review beginning in August 2018. The Planning Commission is holding work sessions on the plan as well as a public hearing tentatively set for November 2018. Meetings of the Planning Commission are posted on the Loudoun County Government Master Calendar

The Planning Commission is scheduled to present its recommendations on the comprehensive plan to the Board of Supervisors in January 2019.
Once adopted, the Loudoun 2040 Comprehensive Plan will serve as the county government's guide for land use and development for the foreseeable future.

Plan Charter and Foundations Report
The planning process for the new Loudoun County Comprehensive Plan is guided by the Plan Charter
, and our consultant team has written a Foundations Report
, which summarizes the existing conditions and trends that are shaping Loudoun County.
The New Comprehensive Plan Stakeholders Committee
, whose members were appointed by the Board of Supervisors, worked with county staff and the county's consultants to help guide the process of developing a New Comprehensive Plan. The Stakeholders Committee's final meeting was July 9, 2018. More information about the committee is online here

The current Comprehensive Plan consists of the Revised General Plan
, the Revised Countywide Transportation Plan
, a companion to the General Plan, and a number of specific strategic and area management plans
. The Comprehensive Plan also serves as the foundation for amendments to the Zoning
and Subdivision ordinances to ensure the county's land use goals are implemented through the regulatory process. This planning effort will focus on developing a new General Plan and a new Countywide Transportation Plan.
